Design Directions: Mid-Year Trends Shaping 2025 Interiors

Written by Innerspace | 9 June 2025

We’re officially halfway through the year and what a journey it’s been across the design landscape. From European trade fairs to the ever-evolving Australian design scene, we’ve been immersed in conversations, showrooms, studio visits and designer meetings that have pointed to some exciting shifts in how we’re living, designing, and creating.

Here are three defining interior trends we’ve seen gaining momentum  and why they matter for your next project.

1. Colour With Depth

The rise of blue has moved well beyond the occasional accent wall. From chalky sky tones to deeper shades like "Encore Blue" and "Mapped Blue", this palette is being used to evoke calm, confidence, and emotional resonance. In both residential and commercial spaces, designers are embracing blue as a primary colour layering tone-on-tone or contrasting it against neutral foundations for high impact.

Blue is having its moment, not as a trend colour, but as a design tool that adds gravitas and grace.

2. Natural Textures & Honest Materials

Minimalism is giving way to something richer, more tactile. We’re seeing a renewed appreciation for raw and unrefined materials. Have you noticed the new restaurants looking a little more rustic? Think hand-trowelled plasters, unpolished timbers, boucle upholstery, honed stone, and breezy linen. These finishes bring warmth and a sense of grounding to interiors, offering a lived-in quality that clients are increasingly drawn to.

These materials tell the story. It’s less about perfection but more about connection to nature, to craft, and to place.

3. Comfort With Curves

There’s a softness emerging across furniture silhouettes, with rounded edges and enveloping proportions creating spaces that feel welcoming and intuitive. Sculptural armchairs, low-slung modular sofas, and organically shaped coffee tables are taking centre stage in living spaces, while commercial interiors are embracing curves to soften lines and encourage flow.

It’s comfort, but considered, where form follows feeling as much as function.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next?

As we look to the second half of 2025, we’re anticipating:

  • A continued celebration of artisan craftsmanship; pieces with provenance and heart.

  • The return of pattern play; bold stripes, nostalgic florals, and layered textiles making a joyful comeback.

  • A sharper focus on sustainable design; with designers and clients alike opting for quality over quantity, and materials that tread lightly.

At Innerspace, we’re proud to work alongside a network of Australian makers and international brands that share this evolving design ethos. Whether you’re specifying for a high-end residential build, a boutique hospitality project, or a commercial fit-out, we’re here to support your vision with thoughtfully curated furniture and materials.
