For over 60 years, that experience has been shaped by a vision that began in a Danish factory and now lives on in the heart of German engineering: the Bosse Modul Space system.
In 1958, Danish designer Poul Cadovius revolutionised the way we think about space and structure. His invention the ‘Abstracta’ shelving system was a pioneering example of modular design. Tool-free and elegantly minimal, it used metal tubes and connectors to support sheet steel shelving, offering function and flexibility without a single screw.
The system won gold at the 1961 International Inventors’ Fair in Brussels and was even used to build entire exhibition halls at the 1962 International Furniture Fair in Cologne. Cadovius’s patented plug-in construction method laid the groundwork for a concept that has stood the test of time.
In 2002, German manufacturer MRD took inspiration from Cadovius’s innovative spirit and reimagined modularity with the launch of Modul Space, a system produced in Germany with a clear nod to Bauhaus principles of form, function, and aesthetic clarity.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Bosse Design, founded by Günter Bosse in 1964, has been at the forefront of creating adaptable furniture systems ever since. From producing high-quality wall units in the 60s and 70s to pioneering space structuring in the 90s with open-plan office solutions, Bosse has consistently led the conversation on functional design.
Now part of the Dauphin Group, Bosse continues its legacy from its manufacturing base in Höxter, Germany, producing intelligent, sustainable furniture for the workplaces of today and tomorrow.
At the heart of every great space is intention, the Bosse Modul system is a true reflection of that philosophy. Crafted with precision and shaped by over sixty years of thoughtful design evolution, Bosse offers more than just functionality. It brings personality, creativity, and purpose to every environment it touches.
