Launching new products during the pandemic proved to be very difficult and innovation seemed to take a back seat for a few years with the release of new furniture only seen on our computer screens.
Unable to visually see, hold and test out new products from manufacturers and suppliers had been missed for so long, so 2023 sees new releases come back with vengeance and design discussions stem from showroom launches between the clients, the manufacturer and product designers come back to life.
Rakumba launched Hangman late in 2022 however due to Covid the launch to the market was only able to take place recently.
A combination of mischievous nostalgia and avant-garde sculpture, Hangman is the first collaboration between Rakumba and esteemed Australian designer, Adam Goodrum. Inspired by the universally recognised analogue game of ‘Hangman’, this collection of floor, table and pendant luminaires embodies playful design and simple, yet magically executed geometry.
Innerspace were fortunate enough to be the first to launch Hangman in Australia, along with Rakumba, to our Perth based A&D community in February this year. Rakumba owner Michael Murray and Head of Design Dan Tracey joining the designer himself, Adam Goodrum in the Innerspace Perth Showroom to host a Q&A panel discussion and an insight into the design process whilst creating Hangman.
With the Hangman Pendants, Floor Lamp and Table Lamps on display in the various finishes, guests were invited to discover the playfulness of the design and the various shapes and forms that Hangman can adapt too and interchange throughout the life of the product.
In addition, special sublime anodised finish on the Hangman table lamp was loaned from the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney. This special one off piece was produced for the Sydney Design Week in 2022.
Guests welcomed Goodrum back to his home town for an afternoon of nostalgic memories of childhood games and acrobatic lighting positions.
